Stay Strong in the Fight

Stay Strong in the Fight

The Christian life is not a playground—it’s a battlefield. From the moment you said “yes” to Jesus, you entered into a fight. Not a fight with fists or weapons, but a fight for your faith, a fight for your family, and a fight for the souls of people around you who don’t yet know Christ.

The Apostle Paul put it this way: “Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you” (1 Timothy 6:12, NLT).

That phrase—“fight the good fight”—tells us two things. First, it’s not going to be easy. There will be resistance. You’ll face discouragement, temptation, and opposition. But second, it reminds us the fight is worth it. Eternal life is at stake, for you and for those God has placed in your path.

Why We Can’t Give Up

Sometimes following Jesus feels like an uphill climb. Maybe you’ve prayed for a friend for years and nothing seems to change. Maybe you’ve stood for your faith at work or school and it only brought pushback. Maybe you’ve felt the enemy whisper, “Just quit—it’s not worth it.”

But Paul reminds us that this fight is not about us—it’s about Jesus. It’s about holding fast to the eternal life He offers. It’s about standing in the gap for those who don’t yet know Him. Eternity is real, and that makes the fight worth every ounce of effort.

How to Stay Strong in the Fight

Here are a few ways the Bible teaches us to endure when the fight gets tough:  •Keep your focus on heaven. Paul wrote, “I am willing to endure anything if it will bring salvation and eternal glory in Christ Jesus to those God has chosen” (2 Timothy 2:10, NLT). Heaven is the goal, and remembering eternity keeps us moving forward.  •Watch for God’s opportunities. Colossians 4:5 says, “Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity.” Every conversation, every relationship, every moment could be a divine appointment.  •Pray persistently. Jesus said, “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you” (Matthew 7:7, NLT). Don’t give up praying for the people in your life who need Christ.  •Stand guard against the enemy. Paul reminds us in Ephesians 6:10–11, “Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.” We don’t fight in our strength, but in God’s.  •Stay near the cross. Paul declared, “I decided that while I was with you I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified” (1 Corinthians 2:2, NLT). The cross is our anchor. It reminds us of the price Jesus paid and the victory He secured.

The Good News

Here’s the good news: you’re not fighting for victory—you’re fighting from victory. Jesus already defeated sin, death, and the grave at the cross. The Holy Spirit strengthens you to keep going when you want to quit.

So don’t lay down your sword. Don’t walk off the battlefield. Stay strong in the fight, because one day, like Paul, you’ll be able to say, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful” (2 Timothy 4:7, NLT).

And when that day comes, you’ll hear the only words that matter: “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
