Kill Giants: The Power of Anointing, Obedience, and Servanthood

This blog was written from notes taken during the service at Family Life Church. Bishop Shea Hughes was our guest speaker. You can listen to the whole message at www.familylifepa.com/media. Every believer faces giants that seem impossible to move. But the same God who empowered David still empowers His people today. The story of David and Goliath is not just about a sling and a stone. It is about anointing, obedience, and the courage to serve faithfully while you wait for your moment.
Recognizing the Warrior Within
You may not see yourself as a warrior, but you are one. Every scar you have and every storm you have walked through are proof that God’s grace has carried you this far. David was not born a king. He was a shepherd boy who fought lions and bears with a slingshot and faith that the battle belonged to the Lord. When you put on the armor of God, your back is uncovered for a reason. You were never meant to run from a fight. You were meant to face it with confidence and faith.
From the Pasture to the Palace
David’s journey reminds us that God uses humble beginnings to prepare us for holy callings. The shift from the pasture to the palace comes through obedience and service. You may be in a season that feels small right now, but if you can serve faithfully there, God can trust you with something greater. Do not despise small beginnings. Every great move of God starts with a willing heart and whatever is already in your hand.
Anointing for the Assignment
We do not need more talent. We need a fresh anointing. The anointing is what breaks yokes, heals hearts, and gives us vision to see life where others see loss. After every fresh anointing comes a new challenge, a new giant to face. But the presence of a giant means you are standing in your promised land. Giants do not rise in the wilderness. They rise in the place of destiny.
The Power Encounter
David picked up smooth stones from a brook that had been shaped by rough waters. The trials that shaped you are the same ones God will use to bring victory. When power meets the problem, everything changes. The stone that struck Goliath was more than a rock. It pointed to Jesus Christ, the stone the builders rejected, the Chief Cornerstone. When Jesus steps into your battle, giants fall.
Your Breakthrough Is Winding Up
You are not winding down. You are winding up for a miracle. God is preparing to release something through you that is greater than what has come against you. Do not build a house where you are supposed to pitch a tent. Your current struggle is temporary. Declare that the anointing goes before you, the name of Jesus stands above every name, and your giant is falling. Victory is already yours in Jesus’ name.
